If you’re here reading this, I’m going to make the bold presumption that you are actively searching for a job, whether it’s due to lay-off, resignation, being “let go” or desire to make a career change. Or I suppose you could be here hoping to find job search horror stories that reaffirm your conviction to stay in a job that sucks donkey balls rather than go through the nightmare of looking for a new job. So, yeah, I kinda wanna lean toward what’s behind door #1, ok?
I started this blog (which is a work-in-progress, btw) to not only share some of my job search hurdles & interviews from hell but to pass along what I’ve learned along the way and maybe even help someone see that their job search isn’t as bad as they thought it was. And I’m hoping just a teeny bit that I might find out the same thing because MY experience has been bad enough for me to 1. research how to start a blog; 2. pay for web hosting & a domain; 3. spend significant time writing about some of the worst days of my life. We’re in these mean job search streets together so let’s share travel tips & give each other directions when we get lost (you see what I did there? you see it!).
Another goal I have is that we can be a resource for each other in avoiding some of the employers with the most egregious behavior. Have you ever felt so poorly treated, so disregarded as a human being & talented job candidate that you wished you could shout from the rooftops, warning unsuspecting job seekers to avoid that particular employer like an uncovered tuna fish sample on the deli counter at the end of the day? Me too! Or have you ever felt that the only way employers would stop treating jobseekers like unimportant, flaming-hoop-leaping circus animals is if they were shamed into doing better or held accountable somehow? ME TOO! It’s like I wrote this just for you, right?!
I’ll be sharing stories of real life job search atrocities & I’ll be pointing fingers and naming names (of the offending companies that is) & I’ll be giving you a safe place to do the same if you choose; anonymously or otherwise. These stories will be some of my own & those that are shared with me. I’ve been searching for my dream job for almost 2 years now and I went on 37 (no, that’s not a typo & yes, I did keep count) interviews in the first year…& that’s not counting the phone interviews. We’ve got a lot to talk about my friends, a lot to talk about indeed!
If any of this sounds like what you’re looking for then pull up a chair (\___/), get comfortable & sit for a spell! You’re among friends and together we can turn our nightmare job searches into the jobs of our dreams…
Happy Hunting,
T
P.S. this is my very first time doing this blog thing so bear with me as I experiment, learn through trial & error (probably mostly error) & turn this into a great blog that you’ll enjoy! I also welcome any advice and/or suggestions for what I should add or change or whatever.
