I’ve read a number of articles lately where the writer seems to believe, strongly in fact, that we are currently in a jobseekers’ market. One of the articles that I read goes so far as to give advice for fielding the multiple job offers that jobseekers are sure to receive & need to choose among. I had many thoughts as I read the articles in question: 1. Says who?; 2. Please join us here in the real world sirs & madams; we miss you; & 3. How come nobody told me?! Where was I when this jobseekers’ market phenomenon occurred? I must be searching for a job in a parallel universe or something because no one I know that’s looking for a job (myself included) is finding themselves overwhelmed with job offers. How do I get to this booming jobseekers’ market because the employers’ market I’M in is absolute wacksauce. Please, somebody forward me a copy of the memo!
Anybody else wondering who said it, why they said it & how is it true? No? Just me? Ok (-_-). Well, I haz questions! For why are folks out here in these job-searching streets hitting us with these alternative facts? Lying like this is what won’t let us be great! Anybody that’s looking for any job, let alone the right job, knows that the struggle is real & we are NOT calling the shots or making the rules; some of us aren’t even sure what part of the game this is! Can I drive to this wonderful place where it rains interviews, job offers & salary negotiations? When I get there, can I also get this week’s winning lottery numbers too?
I don’t know–maybe I’m in the wrong line of work and these fairy-dust-sprinkled job offers are for people in the technology fields or engineering or something. I might could buy that. But the dude who wrote one of the articles I read actually mentioned my line of work specifically! Or maybe he hasn’t looked for a job in so long that he has no current experience to reference; in which case, why are you writing about things of which you know not? Sir, you don’t even go to this school! Go obtain a dog to put in this fight since you currently don’t have one! Better yet, everyone writing these unicorns-&-rainbows-job-market articles needs to include directions on how we real world jobseekers can find this magical place where we can pick & choose among employers who are falling all over themselves to hire us. All y’all can go have SEVERAL seats (_/), (____/), __! We are too busy looking for jobs in THIS job market to deal with your unique perspective on the job market…
Am I the only one whose invitation to the jobseekers’ market got lost in the mail?
